TEATRO SOCIALE & BROLETTO

The Teatro Sociale is one of the youngest monuments you will find in the center of Como. Built in the Neoclassical style in 1813, it occupies the site once dedicated to the Castle of the Round Tower. Over time, its stage has been graced by artists of renowned skill, including Liszt and Paganini, and has hosted concerts by masters such as Riccardo Mut

The Broletto, built in 1215, was the seat of the Como municipality during the Medieval period. The location of the structure has important symbolic value: rising right next to the Cathedral, it highlights the indissoluble link between ecclesiastical and civil power. The architectural style of the Broletto is Romanesque-Gothic, but it also features Renaissance elements dating back to the 15th century.

PALAZZO TERRAGNI & LAKESIDE WALK

Also known as Casa del Fascio, the building was constructed in the late 1920s by the architect of the same name and served as the headquarters of the National Fascist Party until 1945. A tool of political propaganda, the Palazzo's style is rationalist: the functionality of the structure prevails over its form, making the building appear devoid of decorations but rigorous and practical as the Fascist ideology intended

Arriving at Palazzo Terragni, you can continue your walk among the city's beauties by heading towards the lake, following via Alessandro Manzoni. Upon reaching the shores of Lake Como, the path winds along the left bank. Passing Piazza Cavour, continue along the lakeside where you will find the Tempio Voltiano, dedicated to the physicist Alessandro Volta. From here, following the coast, you can admire the numerous villas overlooking the lake: Villa Saporiti, Villa Olmo, and further north, Villa del Grumello, where you can also visit the large park of the same name.

TEMPIO VOLTIANO & VILLA SAPORITI

Not far from the shores of the lake, the Tempio Voltiano stands out due to its Neoclassical style that recalls the Pantheon. Its original purpose was to collect memorabilia and relics of the physicist Alessandro Volta. Today, you can admire the permanent exhibition of Volta's heritage, observing the precious scientific instruments used in the Italian academic's experiments in physics and chemistry.

Founded towards the end of the 18th century, Villa Saporiti faces the western shore of the lake with its imposing Neoclassical structure. The external decorative simplicity contrasts with the refinement of the interiors, also in Neoclassical style, which enriches the spacious rooms of the Sala d’Onore, Sala Etrusca, and Salottino. The villa is surrounded by a park with a detailed collection of monumental plants and trees, accessible with permission from the Authority or during guided tours.

VILLA OLMO

Built at the end of the 18th century, Villa Olmo is a historic residence in Como of sumptuous beauty designed by the architect Cantoni on commission from the wealthy Odescalchi family. Only the ground floor of the building is open to visitors, where temporary exhibitions and displays are organized. The large English-style park surrounding the villa is freely accessible. As the main public park in the city of Como, it houses a botanical garden and several 19th-century greenhouses, now used by the Municipality to shelter ornamental plants of particular beauty.

PARCO DEL GRUMELLO

Villa Grumello represents the main venue for cultural and scientific initiatives in the city of Como. In particular, the park here is the center of the “Kilometer of Knowledge” project, an idea aimed at creating a cultural and landscape path that connects the main historic parks and villas overlooking the lake. In the Parco del Grumello, you can admire high-quality tree varieties: seasonal blooms alternate with centuries-old trees, such as sequoias, cedars, magnolias, and a valuable Ginkgo Biloba specimen.
